چکیده
Emerging evidence suggests functional roles for microglia in the healthy, mature nervous system. However, we know little of cellular density and ramified morphology sensory systems, even less their inter-relationship with inhibitory neurons. We therefore conducted fluorescent multi-channel immunohistochemistry confocal microscopy guinea pigs both sexes Iba1, GAD67, GFAP, calbindin, calretinin. explored these markers inferior colliculi (IC), which contain sub-regions specialized different aspects auditory processing. First, found that while Iba1+ somata is similar throughout IC parenchyma, dorsal cortex are significantly more than those central nucleus or lateral cortex. Conversely, ramifications ventral nucleus, a region highest GAD67+ (putative GABAergic) neurons IC, longer fewer ramifications. Second, observed extensive abutments processes onto whole developed novel measures to quantify these. Cluster analyses revealed two sub-types neuron differ quantity somatic they receive. Unlike previous classification schemes clusters not related soma size. Taken together, data demonstrate microglial vary between adult possibly ongoing demands niche. Furthermore, neuronal means by can be classified.

Two classes of GABAergic neurons in the inferior colliculus.
The inferior colliculus (IC) is unique, having both glutamatergic and GABAergic projections ascending to the thalamus. Although subpopulations of GABAergic neurons in the IC have been proposed, criteria to distinguish them have been elusive and specific types have not been associated with specific neural circuits. Recently, the largest IC neurons were found to be recipients of somatic terminals...
متن کاملPerisomatic GABAergic synapses of basket cells effectively control principal neuron activity in amygdala networks
Efficient control of principal neuron firing by basket cells is critical for information processing in cortical microcircuits, however, the relative contribution of their perisomatic and dendritic synapses to spike inhibition is still unknown. Using in vitro electrophysiological paired recordings we reveal that in the mouse basal amygdala cholecystokinin- and parvalbumin-containing basket cells...
متن کاملMorphology of GABAergic neurons in the inferior colliculus of the cat.
The goal of the present study was to provide a comprehensive and quantitative description of neurons immunoreactive for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the inferior colliculus (IC) of the cat. Neurons were investigated with two different antisera and two different incubation methods. Free-floating frozen or vibratome-cut sections were incubated either with an antiserum to glutamic acid decarb...

A GABAergic component has been identified in the projection from the inferior colliculus (IC) to the medial geniculate body (MG) in cats and rats. We sought to determine if this GABAergic pathway exists in guinea pig, a species widely used in auditory research. The guinea pig IC contains GABAergic cells, but their relative abundance in the IC and their relative contributions to tectothalamic pr...
